Hello and welcome to How I Live My Life.
My name is Lee Beaumont, or Newt to my friends, I’m 25 years old and I live in Leeds, England. This is my website.
Over one year ago, at 8.00am on 6th February 2013, I had a visit from British Gas to give my boiler it’s yearly service; unfortunately it failed and they told me that even though the boiler was only four years old, it had came to the end of it’s life. They shut down the boiler, and I was left with no boiler and gas. This meant no heating and no hot water.
The last thing I wanted to do was cough up £800 for a new boiler as well as £200 for the installation, so I decided to try and live for one full year without using a boiler or gas.
This blog was originally my way to keep a record of the experience.
I understood I would need to change the way I do things, as I could no longer put the heating on, put the gas cooker on, shower or take baths, even wash up with hot water.
One year on and I have found that the whole experience has turned me into a real hardcore money saver. I try to save money on shopping, electricity bills, and everything in between. The past year has seen me on the radio and TV shows, much to my own surprise!
I cannot see this changing for the foreseeable future as my one year experiment has turned into a way of life.
As I said this blog was originally my way to keep a record of the experience and I have updated it pretty much every evening with what I have done that day, in the hope that you will find it useful and you too can save some money with my little tricks and tips.
